Botox and Fillers FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions about Botox and removal of forehead and under eye wrinkles
Can fillers be used during pregnancy or breast feeding?
Significant fetal risks exist with botulinum toxin, however they aren’t fully understood because the doses used in humans are different than the doses used on animals during studies. The safety of using injectable fillers during pregnancy has not been established. In my practice, patients have become pregnant after using injectables to remove wrinkles and have done fine. However, I don’t recommend these procedures to women who know they are pregnant or are nursing.
What’s the difference between Botox® and Dysport®?
Botox and Dysport are very similar, but not identical. They have the same serotype (A) of botulinum toxin with a different protein wrapping around the neurotoxin. The actual units per dose of Dysport needed is about 2.5-3x more than Botox but Dysport is less expensive per dose. Dsyport works more quickly than Botox to remove forehead and under eye wrinkles, but both products seem to have approximately the same duration. The scientific FDA trials also show similar effectiveness and safety profiles. Patients in my practice usually choose and stick to Dypsort because of the cost savings, but we offer both products.
