About Dr. Barr
The world of medical aesthetics and cosmetic surgery has exploded in the last several years, and that can make it difficult to determine where to place your trust. You want a practitioner who is experienced, qualified, will educate you, and whose aesthetic you can rely on to give you beautiful, natural-looking results. You want someone who will listen to your concerns and provide a personalized solution, not a cookie-cutter protocol. You want someone who places your safety and wellbeing as their foremost concern.
You want Dr. Lucy Barr.
As a double board certified specialist in aesthetic surgery of the face, neck, and hair, and Utah’s first female board certified facial plastic surgeon, her extensive credentials set her apart from the crowd. After obtaining her medical degree in her home state from Oregon Health and Science University then completing her one year surgical internship followed by a 4-year surgical residency at the University of Utah, Dr. Barr was accepted to and completed a prestigious fellowship program certified by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
She was led to her career through a confluence of passions, interests, and abilities: art, aesthetics, science, health, dermatology, surgery, and a desire to help people feel their best. “I was exposed to surgery late in medical school and fell in love—like a sport you have a natural talent in—and I was encouraged to harness my abilities.” Dr. Barr continues, “ I’m drawn to the crossroads of art and science. A series of decisions in my path took me along the field of surgery, the subspecialty of otolaryngology head and neck surgery, and the sub-subspecialty of facial plastic surgery.”
Some perceive the field of facial aesthetics to be focused solely on the external, but Dr. Barr feels that wellness and appearance are complementary characteristics. This is evidenced in both her professional practice and her personal life. An avid athlete, she can often be found outdoors gliding on her wide boards through fresh powder, powering up the road on her bike, or participating in marathons. In her practice, she takes care to educate her patients about the aging process and helps them discover how to enhance their beauty in ways that will leave them looking and feeling natural and refreshed. She encourages healthy lifestyle choices and prevention, and works to embody those values well.
Aware of the inherent risk in any procedure, Dr. Barr maintains patient safety as her primary concern. When asked about this, she said, “I deeply care about patients’ well-being first and foremost and aim to use my education, surgical skills, artistic ability, and experience to enhance my patients’ natural beauty in the safest fashion possible.” This goal is supported by extensive training and continuous education paired with an overriding belief that a patient’s wellbeing is of the utmost priority.
This drive to care for others also led her to join humanitarian efforts abroad and at home. In Nepal, China, and Belize, Dr. Barr lent her skills to patients in need. In those communities, she repaired cleft palates and scar deformities, treated skin cancers, and assisted with general surgical and medical needs. Locally, Dr. Barr sometimes has the opportunity to care for crime victims, including women with facial deformities resulting from domestic violence.
A commitment to truly help others informs her entire career as she and her team work to create trusting, attentive, and enduring relationships with the patients of Barr Aesthetics. Dr. Barr’s philosophy is that health, wellness, and appearance are all part of the same equation, and as in nature, a balanced equation is key to a beautiful outcome.
Dr. Barr started her own practice in 2008 and has grown her team over the years. Together they have adapted and applied what has been referred to as ‘the Barr touch’ which summarizes the approach she and her team take in obtaining results that make positive changes in their patients’ lives. Today, Barr Aesthetics is a hand selected close knit team of caring, highly educated and experienced medical professionals with an artistic eye and passion for enhancing natural beauty.
