Nasal History
Rhinoplasty (Greek: to shape the nose) is a surgical procedure to aesthetically enhance the nose and/or restore function. Rhinoplasty was first developed in ancient India in 800 BC! The Indian rhinoplasty persisted in 19th century European medicine. Until the 1970’s, nose surgery usually was a ‘closed’ rhinoplasty, meaning that all incisions were made inside of the nose. The development of ‘Open’ rhinoplasty in the 1970s was an important technical advance because it enables the surgeon to improve technical effectiveness in diagnosing and treating the nose.
