Nasal Procedures
Depending on the patient’s concern, a rhinoplasty can be performed ‘closed’ or ‘open’. Open rhinoplasty involves a small incision at the base of the nose (columella) with all other incisions located inside of the nose. In Dr. Barr’s practice an open approach is used for any surgery requiring tip work and all revision surgeries. The surgeries are done at a same day surgical center. Typically a nasal ‘cast’ will be worn for one week and will be removed at your first follow up appointment. The sutures will also be removed at that time. The ‘down time’ really depends on the bruising. If we reset the bones, bruising can last 2 weeks, but some people have no bruising. Although you will see some results from your rhinoplasty surgery immediately after we take the cast off, swelling will gradually improve over an entire year.
