Skin Procedures
The skin is the largest organ in the body. Not only does it protect us, but it is also an outward reflection of our overall health and well-being. At Barr Aesthetics, we offer a variety of services to help you promote better skin health and perfect the look of your skin. Here is a brief look at common skin concerns and how we can help you treat them.
Wrinkles
Although genetics is a large determining factor for skin structure and texture, sun exposure is also a major cause of wrinkles—especially in fair skinned individuals. Other factors such as pollutants, diet, and smoking can also contribute to skin aging. Treatment options for wrinkles include topical creams, chemical peels, and injectables.
Chemical Peels
Superficial, medium or deep chemical peels can all be used to treat wrinkles depending on the depth of wrinkle and goals of treatment.
Venus Viva
This device combines RF and micro-needling to remodel collagen and tighten skin. It can help correct fine lines and improve skin texture.
Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators (Botox/Dysport) soften muscle movement, fading wrinkles and preventing them from worsening. Continued treatment is important for maintenance of results following skin resurfacing.

Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation refers to a wide variety of conditions of excess pigment that are most commonly benign but aesthetically significant. Areas of concern can include brown spots, such as moles (nevi) and freckles (ephilides); birth marks (café au lait, for example); and age spots (solar lentigenes and seborrheic keratosis). Larger areas of concern are seen with PIH (post inflammatory) or melasma. Conditions can be a result of genetics, hormones, or sun exposure. Treatment options include:

Superficial, medium, and deep chemical peels can all successfully treat pigmentation depending on the depth of the pigment and goals of treatment.
Laser and Light Therapy (IPL, Alexandrite, Nd:YAG)
Laser and light therapy can be used to treat the face, neck, chest, shoulders, arms, hands, abdomen, and legs. You can achieve a more even skin tone after just one treatment.
Pores & Acne Scarring
Acne scarring can be categorized as rolled, box car, or ice pick and can be treated with multiple methods. We most commonly treat our patients using a combination of subcision, fillers, and fractional resurfacing, although dermabrasion can be helpful for more significant scarring.
Fillers
Fillers can be used in alone or in combination with energy based treatments to stimulate collagen and fill in depressions. We use a technique called subcision, where the scar is released from the underlying tissue with a needle and then filled. Duration of results depends on the type of filler used but can last more than 5 years.
Venus Viva
The Venus Viva uses fractional radiofrequency technology to heat your tissue, leading to collagen remodeling and blending of scars. A series of 6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart is usually recommended.
Pore Reduction
Though pore size is genetically determined and there is no magic cure, there are some treatment options that have been shown to reduce pore size. Topical vitamin A can reduce the appearance of larger pores, especially when used in conjunction with Venus Viva treatments.
Acne
Acne is most common in adolescence, but post-adolescent acne does occur. In fact, it affects 50% of us in our twenties, 25% of us in our thirties, and 10% of us in our forties. It often presents with acne around the jawline, neck, and lower cheeks.
Treatment might involve lifestyle management, an improved skin care regimen, routine facials, microdermabrasion, topical or oral medications, and/or laser and light treatments. Our professionals can help you determine which treatment options we offer will be best suited for your skin.
Rosacea
Rosacea is a common but poorly understood disorder of the facial skin that can cause flushing, flaking, dilated vessels, and pimples. Treatment can include lifestyle management (trigger avoidance), laser and light therapy, topical medication, and/or oral medication, depending on the subtype. Our professionals can help you determine what will be best for your facial skin.
Perioral Dermatitis
Perioral dermatitis is a common condition that results in inflammation around the mouth in the form of a scaly and/or bumpy rash. Because the exact cause is unknown, treatment options vary and may include avoidance of irritants, maintenance of the skin barrier, topical anti-inflammatories, and oral medication.
